Free YouTube Playlists from Keith: Master. Free Packet Tracer Labs download: Enjoy, Like, and Subscribe. Including Virtual IP (FHRP, VRRP, HSRP), Virtual Private Network (VPN), Switched Virtual Interfaces (SVIs) and more. I didn't score as high on the security+ but I also delayed a few months after preparing for it and got a bit rusty hehe. Test your understanding of Cisco CCNA regarding tech that includes the word 'Virtual'. Also the exam cram is good to add in the mix. Professor Messer also has some on security+. Of course I get experience at work so that makes it a ton easier than a person not in the job field I would imagine.Īs for Security+ I would recommend.Darril Gibson's Sybex book. I can say that after just self study I scored high on the Net+ Test so it is possible. I also used the exam cram book to brush up and get ready for the test. I used Mike Myers book and highly recommend it, he has a way of teaching that isn't utterly boring. Pofessor Messer is certainly good to help add on to your other learning. Can anyone recommend complementary material before taking this test? Perhaps going through Professor Messer's library as well? I would highly recommend CBT Nuggets Network+ videos.

I'm currently going through the CBT Nuggets series with Keith Barker and find his attitude, voice, and presentation excellent. If the CompTIA courses are really basic can anyone suggest a slightly more advanced course?

I'm looking for something that will tell me how they work and how to diagnose issues when they no longer do what they're supposed to. Having looked at the course specs there's quite a bit on there I'd like to learn about, that I don't currently know a great deal about other than basically what they are. So I'm trying to work out if I'd get anything from the CompTIA courses, if they just explain what the basics are (EG explain what the ping command does) I'm already above that level and wouldn't get anything from it. Though I wouldn't say my networking skills are great and need some improvement, if I can't diagnose a fault from a ping, tracert, or route print the call usually gets escalated (this is more often than not where networking's concerned). I've seen a lot of comments online that the CompTIA exams are very basic and more for IT newbies - I've worked in IT for 16 years, in 1st \ 2nd line support positions, I've already done Windows 8, and ITIL exams (off my own back and via a previous employer).
I'm looking to do some training that I can hopefully get my current employer to contribute towards, so it needs to be relevant to my current role, (running a small helpdesk) so as much as I'd love to do Server 2012 certs probably 70% of it wouldn't be relevant to my current role, so there would be no chance of getting any contribution towards it. (I need a good argument having worked here for 4 years I haven't so far managed to secure a single bit of training) Has anyone done the above courses \ exams and if so did you get anything out of it \ was it worth it?
